Kenya Power announces planned power outage in parts of 5 counties on Thursday, August 6
By Dan Kauna, August 5, 2026Kenya Power has alerted electricity consumers in five counties to prepare for scheduled power outages on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The power distributor confirmed the upcoming disruptions through an operational update published on its official X account.
In the notice, the company advised customers to plan ahead, stating: “Please be advised that there will be a scheduled power interruption tomorrow, Thursday, 06.08.2026, as outlined in the attached notice. “
According to the maintenance timetable released by the utility firm, parts of Kiambu, Kitui, Nyeri, Homa Bay, and Mombasa will experience temporary supply cuts as field teams work on line repairs and network maintenance.
Affected areas in Kiambu, Kitui, and Nyeri
In Kiambu County, the lights will go off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm along Bob Harries Road in Juja. The maintenance will affect farms, markets, and schools in the area, including Kiaora Farm, Azania Coffee Farm, Karakuta Coffee Estate, Mangu Market, St. Francis Mangu Girls, St. Anne High School, and Maryhill Girls.
Another section of Kiambu covering Tigoni and St. Paul’s University will also face an eight-hour power outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Places affected include Tigoni Hospital, Tigoni Police, Limuru Golf Club, Brown Cheese, St. Paul’s University, Redhill Villas, and Tropical Heat.
In Kitui County, electricity supply will be turned off earlier, running from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm within Ciampiu. Residents in Nthangani, Ciampiu, Thagicu, and Gankanga should expect a full-day disruption.
Nyeri County will similarly see outages between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, focusing on Karundas and Thegu Resort. Nearby sites such as Gathungo Primary, Gathungo Dispensary, Witemere Market, and Chaka Borehole will be without power.
Outages in Homa Bay and Mombasa
In Homa Bay County, the shutdown will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm across Gendia, Kosele, and Liera. Localities listed in the notice include Gendia Mission, Nyafare, Simbiri, Kaditonge, Dunga, Karabok, Kawere, and Kosele Division Headquarters.
Finally, residents and business owners in Mombasa County will face a blackout along parts of Haile Selasie Road from 9:00 am to 5.00 pm. Places affected include Blue Room Restaurant, Public Health Department, Msanifu Kombo Road, Hospital Street, Turkana Road, and Mombasa County Library.
Kenya Power carries out these planned shut-offs regularly to maintain line equipment, fix faults, and expand grid infrastructure to new locations.
