Kenya Power announces planned outages in parts of 8 counties on Tuesday, September 8
By Dan Kauna, September 7, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions in selected parts of the country on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The utility firm shared the maintenance notice on its social media handles, advising customers to prepare for the temporary shutdown.
The affected areas include parts of Nairobi, North Rift, South Nyanza, Mt. Kenya, and the Coast.
Nairobi and Mt. Kenya regions
In Nairobi Region, power will be off between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm in parts of Loresho, Waithaka, and Donholm. Residents in Loresho living beyond AY4077, near University Farm, and around Mandela Hostels will be affected.
In Waithaka, areas along Naivasha Road, Ndwaru Road, Kikuyu Road, Ngina Road, and Muhuri Road will experience power cuts. Institutions including Dagoretti High School, Nembu Girls, and Nairobi Women’s Hospital College are also on the schedule.

Down in Donholm and Savannah Road, customers around TotalEnergies Donholm, Equity Bank, Co-op Bank, Greenfields, and Harambee Sacco Estates will face the eight-hour disruption.
In Mt. Kenya Region, power maintenance will affect parts of Nyeri and Tharaka Nithi counties from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. In Nyeri, outages will target Ringroad, Kimathi Estate, Baraka Sasini, Embassy, Mahiga, Kagere, and Ndunyu.
Facilities such as Nyeri National Polytechnic, KRA offices, Consolata College, and Mary Immaculate Hospital will be without electricity. In Tharaka Nithi County, Rubate Market, Rubate Teacher Training College, Mpukoni Market, and Maabi Village are slated for maintenance.
Rift Valley, Nyanza, and Coast disruptions
In the North Rift Region, parts of Uasin Gishu County covering Kokwet, Chebororwo, Barsombe, and Koitugum will face an interruption from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. Meanwhile, in South Nyanza, parts of Migori County including Kakrao and Warisia will be without power from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
Parts of Kisii and Homa Bay counties, specifically Gamba and God Ber, will undergo maintenance between 9.00 am and 2.00 pm, affecting Gamba Primary School and God Ber Secondary School.
Along the Coast, Kilifi County will see power disruptions from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm in parts of Kanamai and Bomani, affecting North Coast Medical College and Kikambala Housing.
In Mombasa County, the entire Miritini area will be off during the same hours, impacting Miritini Estate, Miritini Railways Station, and Mombasa Water Offices in Bonje.
Kenya Power has asked affected customers to plan their activities accordingly.
