Kenya Power announces blackout in several counties on Sunday, January 18

Kenya Power has announced a planned blackout that will affect several counties on Sunday, January 18, 2026, as part of scheduled power maintenance.
The utility said the interruption will affect different regions at different times and advised customers to prepare ahead of the planned works.
In its notice, Kenya Power said, “Good evening, please be advised that the areas referenced above are scheduled to undergo planned power maintenance tomorrow, Sunday, 18 January 2026.”
Nairobi County
Parts of Nairobi County will be affected under the Nairobi Region. Kenya Power said the power interruption will take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
The affected area includes parts of Lunga Lunga Road and Likoni Road.

The company listed House of Manji, Wheatabix, part of Likoni Road, Ashut Head Office, Lokitaung Road, Smithkline Beacham, Lunga Lunga Square, Mareba Enterprises, the whole of Rangwe Road, Clesoi Road, Sasio Road, Patco Industries, Nairobi Plastics, Cosmos, Sansora Group and adjacent customers.
Kenya Power said customers in these areas should expect a full interruption during the maintenance period.
Uasin Gishu County
In the North Rift Region, parts of Uasin Gishu County will also be affected by the planned maintenance. Kenya Power said the outage will occur on Sunday, January 18, from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. in West Indies Estate.
Affected areas include Gulab Lochab Academy, Paul’s Bakery, part of West Indies Estate, Bondeni and adjacent customers. Kenya Power said the interruption will last several hours as technical teams carry out the planned works. The company added that electricity will be restored immediately after the maintenance is completed.
Kakamega County
Parts of Kakamega County in the Western Region will also experience a power blackout on the same day. Kenya Power said the outage is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in the Namulungu area.
Areas expected to be affected include Kholera, Namulungu, Mukweya, Mirere, Namanga, Namalenge and adjacent customers. Kenya Power said the interruption is part of the wider maintenance exercise planned for that day.
