Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 5 counties on Sunday, December 14
By Steve Ireri, December 13, 2025Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of five counties on Sunday, December 14, 2025, citing essential maintenance work as the reason for the blackout.
In a statement issued on the evening of Saturday, December 13, 2025, the utility company revealed that the affected regions include sections of Kisumu, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, and Kiambu counties.
In Kisumu County, the blackout will cover Mega City, Jumbo Apartments, Cachok, Nyalenda Railways Estate, Whirlspring Hotel, Supreme Court, St. Luke’s Hospital, Palmers Hotel, and adjacent areas.
Power will be unavailable from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
“WESTERN REGION PARTS OF KISUMU COUNTY AREA: MEGA CITY, JUMBO APARTMENT DATE: Sunday 14.12.2025 TIME: 8.30 Α.Μ.-5.00 P.M. Mega City Cachok, Nyalenda Railways Est, Whirlspring Hotel, Suprime Court, Jumbo Apt. St. Luke’s Hosp, Palmers Hotel & adjacent customers,” the statement shared on Facebook read in part.

Parts of Vihiga County, specifically Sabatia and its surrounding neighbourhoods, including Serem Market, Kapsotik, Lusui, Banja, Kaseta, Bombo Water, Kapsaoi, Goibel, Mungavo, Saosi, Turaco, Stanley Godia, Kaimosi TTC, Emususui, and Virembe, will also experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The South Nyanza region will see blackouts in parts of Kisii County, particularly Gesero and Matongo, including Obwari, Nyosia, Raganga, and sections of Mosocho, as well as parts of Nyamira County covering Nyaikuro, Miriri, and Magombo.
Power interruptions in these areas are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In Kiambu County, residents and businesses in Wangige and Gathiga, including Njonjo Farm, Wangige Hospital, Kibiku, Gathiga Market, Otani Residence, and Kessel Homes, will also be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Kenya Power urged all affected customers to take precautionary measures to protect electrical equipment and ensure minimal disruption to daily activities.
It added that customers can access detailed information and updates via Kenya Power’s official platforms or by dialling *977# for fast and easy access to services.
