Dealing with a power blackout
In Kenya and other countries, power blackouts are normal. They come unplanned and throw plans in the works, often disrupting daily routines at home and at work.
Residents and businesses are advised to take simple precautionary measures to stay prepared.
Charge phones, laptops, and other essential devices in advance, and ensure backup lighting, such as torches or battery-powered lamps, is available.

For businesses, switching off or unplugging non-essential equipment can prevent damage from electrical surges when power is restored.
Households that depend on electric cooking or water pumps are encouraged to plan meals in advance and store sufficient water.
By following these steps, both residents and businesses can minimise disruptions and maintain safety during a blackout.
Preparing ahead allows the community to continue daily routines with minimal interruption, even when electricity is unexpectedly unavailable.
