Kenya Met releases 5-day weather forecast for Sunday, August 23 to Thursday, August 27

The Kenya Meteorological Department has sent out the latest weather forecast valid from August 23, 2026, to August 27, 2026.

Signed off on August 21, 2026, the report shows Kenyans should prepare for a mix of cold morning skies, patchy rains, and scorching afternoon heat depending on where they live.

Chilly mornings and cold nights ahead

Residents in Nairobi and the central highlands should keep warm clothing nearby.

The Met Department notes that “Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Makueni, Machakos, Embu, Marsabit, Wajir and Garissa counties.”

Nairobi residents will see daytime temperatures ranging between 22°C and 24°C, with nighttime drops down to 13°C. Light showers are expected to hit the capital on the night of Sunday, August 23, 2026, after 6.00 pm.

Neighbouring Kiambu, Murang’a, and Nyeri counties will start Sunday morning with light rains before clearing up later in the day.

The coldest places in the country will be in Nyandarua County, where night temperatures will plunge to 6°C on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, and Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Samburu County will also face cold nights, with temperatures dipping to 9°C on Monday, August 24, 2026, and Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Showers in western regions and high heat in the north

Rain will cover several regions over the five-day period. The forecast highlights that “Rainfall is expected in several counties.”

Counties in the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, such as Kericho, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Nandi, will see afternoon showers. Kericho will experience moderate showers on the afternoon of Sunday, August 23, 2026, while Bungoma gets moderate rain on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Along the coast, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamu will get light morning showers before the sun comes out around 12.00 pm.

Up north, hot conditions will dominate throughout the week. Turkana County will record daytime maximums of 36°C every day from August 23, 2026, to August 27, 2026. Mandera County will also hit 36°C on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, and Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The Met Department reminded Kenyans that the 5-day forecast should be used in conjunction with the daily (24-hour) forecast issued by the Department, with specific details available from county offices.
