Kenya Met lists areas expected to experience intermittent cold weather
By Valerian Khakayi, June 15, 2026The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has listed several regions expected to experience intermittent cold and cloudy conditions between June 16 and June 22, 2026.
According to the weather forecast issued on Monday, June 15, 2026, areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley and Northeastern Kenya are likely to experience the cold conditions during the period.
“Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley & Northeastern Kenya,” Kenya Met announced.
The areas include Nairobi, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, and Narok.
Others include Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera and Isiolo.
Dry and rainfall conditions
Despite the cold conditions in some regions, most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry.
However, some areas in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Coast and northeastern Kenya may receive rainfall.
“Most parts of the country are expected to be generally dry. However, some parts of the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Coast and northeastern Kenya may receive rainfall,” the weatherman stated.
Temperature
Kenya Met further noted that night-time temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and areas around Mount Kilimanjaro, resulting in chilly mornings and nights.
“Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in a few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and in the vicinity of Mt Kilimanjaro,” Kenya Met stated.
The department also indicated that some parts of the coast, the southeastern lowlands, northeastern Kenya and northwestern Kenya are expected to experience high daytime temperatures, with average maximum temperatures exceeding 30°C.
“Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in some parts of the coast, the southeastern lowlands, and northeastern and northwestern Kenya,” Kenya Met added.
