Kenya Met issues weather outlook for Thursday, August 27: What to expect in your region
By Dan Kauna, August 26, 2026The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released the weather prediction for Thursday, August 27, 2026.
According to the forecast, “Most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry”.
While dry spells dominate, strong winds and brief morning showers will feature in specific areas.
Regional breakdown and temperature shifts
Coastal residents should prepare for slight variations in the morning.
“Rainfall expected in some parts of Kilifi and Kwale,” the report notes, with both counties facing sunny intervals with a chance of light showers over few places during the early hours.
Kilifi will experience afternoon light showers, with temperatures peaking at 29°C. Mombasa, Tana River, and Lamu will remain mostly clear with sunny intervals throughout the day.
Nairobi, the Central Highlands, and South Rift counties including Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a, and Nakuru will experience a cold night, with minimum temperatures dipping to 9°C in Nyandarua and 12°C in Nairobi.
However, daytime conditions will warm up nicely, reaching maximum highs of 27°C in Nairobi and 28°C in Embu under sunny intervals.
Northern and North Eastern region residents should get ready for high daytime heat. Mandera will hit the highest temperature nationwide at 37°C, closely followed by Turkana at 36°C, and Garissa at 34°C.
Strong winds alert
The weatherman has also warned of strong gusty winds sweeping across a vast belt of the country.
“Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui Counties,” the forecast warns.
Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin, including Kisumu, Kakamega, and Busia, will remain generally dry, experiencing sunny intervals through the morning and afternoon.
Maximum temperatures across the lake region will average between 29°C and 31°C.
