Kenya Met issues 5-day weather forecast for Aug 28 to Sep 1
By Dan Kauna, August 26, 2026The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a five-day weather forecast valid from August 28 to September 1, 2026.
Issued on August 26, 2026, the report predicts that “rainfall is expected in a few counties,” while most regions will experience mostly sunny intervals and partly cloudy skies.
Coastal and Central regions expect showers
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu, are set to receive light to moderate showers in the morning hours, particularly on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Mombasa will see maximum temperatures of 30°C and minimum temperatures reaching 21°C. Kilifi and Lamu will experience maximum temperatures of up to 29°C and 31°C respectively.
The Central Highlands and Nairobi area (covering Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, and Nairobi County) will experience sunny intervals alongside light rains and afternoon light showers towards the end of the period.
Nairobi will record maximum temperatures between 23°C and 25°C, with minimums averaging 13°C to 14°C.
Cold conditions will persist in Nyandarua, where night minimum temperatures are forecasted to drop as low as 6°C on Friday, August 28, 2026, and Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Dry and warm conditions across Lake Victoria basin, Highlands West, and Northern Kenya
Regions in the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya, including Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret (Uasin Gishu), Nakuru, and Kericho, will largely enjoy sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy skies at night.
Maximum temperatures in Kisumu will reach up to 32°C, while Kakamega will average highs of 28°C to 29°C.
The Northern and North-Eastern counties, such as Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa, will remain generally hot and dry. Turkana will experience high temperatures of up to 37°C on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Mandera is forecasted to reach maximum temperatures of 36°C.
