Kenya Met forecasts rainfall and strong winds for Saturday, May 30

The Kenya Meteorological Service (Kenya Met) has forecast rainfall and strong winds in several parts of the country on Saturday, May 30, 2026, urging residents in affected areas to remain alert.

According to the weather outlook issued on Friday night, May 29, 2026, rainfall is expected over parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, North Eastern Kenya, and the Coastal region.

Meanwhile, strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in parts of North Western, North Eastern, South Eastern Lowlands, and Coastal counties.

“Rainfall expected over a few parts in the Highland West and East of the Rift valley, North Eastern and the Coast. Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of North Western, North-Eastern, South-Eastern Lowlands and Coastal counties,” Kenya Met explained.

Rain expected in several regions

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places during the afternoon after mainly sunny intervals in the morning.

Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, are expected to experience cloudy conditions with light rainfall in some areas during the morning before sunny intervals develop later in the day. Afternoon showers may occur in high-ground areas.

North Eastern counties, particularly areas bordering Garissa and the Coast, are expected to receive rainfall and showers throughout the day.

At the Coast, showers are forecast over several places in both the morning and afternoon, making it one of the wettest regions in the country on Saturday.

Strong Winds Forecast

Kenya Met has also warned of strong winds affecting several regions. Parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Makueni, Kitui, and all Coastal counties are expected to experience southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots.

Residents in these areas have been advised to take necessary precautions, especially those involved in marine activities, transport, and outdoor operations.

Nairobi is expected to record temperatures ranging from 15°C to 24°C, with cloudy conditions in the morning breaking into sunny intervals later in the day.

Mombasa is forecast to experience temperatures between 24°C and 30°C, accompanied by showers and sunny intervals, while Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Kericho, and Kisii could see afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
