Kenya Airways has issued a progress report regarding flight disruptions at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on August 30, 2026.

In a statement published on its official X account at 2:33 pm, the national carrier confirmed that air traffic control challenges continue to affect flight schedules into and out of Nairobi, with only a third of the day’s scheduled flights having taken to the skies.

According to the statement, only 30 per cent of scheduled flights for the day had departed by 2:00 pm East African Time.

The airline noted that those departing flights left with an average delay of two to three hours, while subsequent departures continue to face delays exceeding three hours.

Air traffic control challenges

The afternoon communication follows an initial customer alert released by Kenya Airways earlier in the day, alerting travellers to schedule disruptions, noting, “We are currently experiencing delays of 2-3 hours for departures out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) due to ongoing air traffic control challenges.”

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this situation has caused to travel plans,” the carrier stated, confirming that its operational teams are collaborating with aviation authorities and airport stakeholders to manage flight schedules safely.

Traveller guidance, helpline details

To manage the disruption, Kenya Airways stated that it is proactively reaching out to passengers to share updates on flight changes.

The carrier advised travellers to log on to its official website or use the KQ Mobile app, navigate to the Manage Booking section, and update their contact details to receive automated alerts.

The national airline affirmed that crew and customer safety remain paramount throughout the operational hitch. “The safety of our crew and customers remains our highest priority,” the statement noted.
