Suba North Member of Parliament (MP) Millie Odhiambo has heaped praises on Isiolo South parliamentary by-election candidate Tubi Bina Mohamed.

Millie has stated that she was impressed by Bina’s decision to compete against her brother, Tubi Tubi Mohamed, in the contest that saw the two siblings fly the flags of rival parties.

The brother, who contested as a United Democratic Alliance candidate, clinched the seat, defeating his sister Bina, who was the Jubilee Party candidate in the by-election.

Despite the loss, Millie praised Bina for her courage to pursue leadership, swimming against the tide.

Millie’s take

According to the veteran MP, Bina may not have won the seat, but she scored a major win in alerting the clan elders of her existence as a child of the deceased MP.

“In Isiolo Constituency, the MP-elect Hon Tubi Mohamed vied against his sister. The clan elders endorsed the son. The sister did not win, but I love the fact that she alerted the clan of her existence as a child of the deceased,” she stated on Facebook on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Clan elders settled on Tubi to replace his dad, the late Tubi Bidu Mohamed, whose death triggered the by-election.

Bina, who was also interested in taking over from her late father, took the battle to the ballot, mounting a formidable challenge in the contest that was decided in favour of Tubi by voters on February 26, 2026.

Acknowledging the nature of politics in the region where endorsement means a lot and brings one a step closer to victory, Millie expressed hope that a time will come when women, too, will secure the endorsement of elders.

“Ipo siku women will be endorsed too,” Millie said.

UDA’s clean sweep

UDA dominated the by-elections that were held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in four regions across the country.
