IG Kanja assures Kenyans of safety during festive season
By Loise Wambugu, December 16, 2025Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has assured Kenyans that the country remains safe and secure as citizens head into the festive season, noting that comprehensive security measures have been put in place nationwide.
Speaking on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Kiganjo Police College during the official opening of the 2025 recruits course, where 5023 recruits will be trained for a duration of nine months, Kanja said all security agencies have been placed on high alert to ensure public safety during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“I want to assure the Kenyan people that our country remains safe and secure. It is safe and secure as we speak,” said Kanja.
He noted that police officers will remain fully deployed throughout the festive period, with some officers sacrificing their holidays to maintain law and order.

“None of us is going to enjoy Christmas because we will remain on guard all through. Proper measures have been put in place. We have even recalled officers who were on leave so that they can rejoin their colleagues and ensure that our people enjoy the festive season in a safe and secure environment,” he stated.

He also cautioned motorists to practice caution while on the roads to reduce cases of accidents, noting that recently there has been a surge and therefore preventive measures must be taken.
”We are urging all drivers to be careful on the roads during this festive season to prevent loss of lives. PSV drivers and the private motorist should all be careful on the roads and avoid drink driving, he added.
He also revealed that the police unit mandated to work with judicial officers and the NTSA to deliver instant fines to road abusers is already on the roads as efforts intensify to reduce road carnage.
