Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Korir Sing’oei has announced that the government will work with the Odinga family to develop a museum at Raila Odinga’s ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County, aimed at commemorating the late former prime minister’s life and legacy.

The announcement came during the handover of bound condolence messages at the Odinga family home in Karen on Friday, January 30, 2026.

“The ministry is ready to work with the Odinga family in developing a museum at their ancestral home in Bondo to commemorate his life and legacy,” Korir said, adding that the initiative is meant to celebrate Raila’s contributions to democracy, diplomacy, and African solidarity.

Condolence messages preserved

Korir added that, in addition to the volumes being handed over to the family, additional sets of the bound condolence messages will be placed at the Kenya National Archives, Kenya National Library Service, Foreign Affairs Library, and the Foreign Affairs Gallery at Uhuru Gardens, where they will be carefully preserved and made accessible to the public so that future generations can understand not only how Kenya mourned, but also how the world honoured Raila Odinga.

“In addition to the sets being handed over to the family today, additional sets of these bound volumes will be placed at the Kenya National Archives, the Kenya National Library Service, the Foreign Affairs Library, and the Foreign Affairs Gallery at Uhuru Gardens,” he said

He described the messages as reflecting a man whose voice carried hope, whose courage inspired many, and whose commitment to justice and democracy resonated far and beyond.

The museum is expected to feature memorabilia, personal effects, and educational exhibits highlighting Raila’s decades-long political career and his role in shaping Kenya’s democratic journey.

Raila Odinga passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 80 while receiving medical treatment in India. He was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Bondo, next to his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President.

Korir says these initiatives, the museum and the preserved condolence messages will ensure Raila Odinga’s legacy is remembered and accessible for generations to come.
