Ghanaian President optimistic iShowSpeed will return after shea butter massage

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama expressed optimism that popular American content creator iShowSpeed would revisit the West African nation after a unique cultural experience he recently enjoyed.
Speaking about the visit on Saturday, January 31, 2026, the President recalled that his children were excited to show him a video of iShowSpeed at a shea butter museum run by a woman in Ghana’s north. The museum, he noted, preserves the region’s traditional practices and cultural heritage.
“I saw him lying down, and our ten girls, all with shea butter, were massaging this boy. The way he was enjoying it, he opened his mouth as if he couldn’t breathe,” the President said.
He also reminisced about his childhood, recalling playful moments with his younger sisters and traditional games, drawing a parallel to the warmth and hospitality he extended to the guest.
“That guy, I’m sure, he will come back here.”

This comes a few days after the Government of Ghana approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to American streamer Darren Jason Watkins Jr, popularly known as IShowSpeed, following the conclusion of his multi-country African tour.
The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, who disclosed that the decision followed discussions with Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya and the subsequent confirmation of what he described as IShowSpeed’s irrefutable ties to Ghana.
“@wode_maya following our discussions and subsequent confirmation of the irrefutable ties of IShowSpeed to Ghana, I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed,” the minister wrote.
According to the minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had officially approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to the streamer.

He praised IShowSpeed for continuing to make Ghana and the African continent proud through his work, describing both IShowSpeed and Wode Maya as worthy ambassadors of the country.
“Keep making our great nation, Ghana, and our beloved African continent proud. Ghana celebrates you both—you remain our worthy ambassadors, and we are delighted to have granted you diplomatic passports last year. For God, Country & Continent,” he added.
