Friday blackout to affect parts of 5 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned blackout that will affect parts of five counties on Friday, January 30, 2026.

In a notice released on Thursday, January 29, 2026, the utility company said the interruption will be carried out to allow routine network maintenance.

In Nairobi County, the outage will affect parts of Nairobi West, specifically Waithaka, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Areas expected to be affected include parts of Kikuyu Road, Ngina Road, Waithaka, the DO’s Office Waithaka, Mukarara Primary School, Dagoretti High School, Maono, Nairobi Women Hospital College, Ruthimitu Primary School, Kagira, Muhuri Road, Border Post, Gichungo, Kagondo, Kiuru and nearby customers.

In Nyeri County, Kenya Power said parts of Muthinga, Kangaita and Gichira will be without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The affected areas include Muthinga, Kiriko, Eucabeth, Kanderendu, Kangaita, Gondo, Mirichu, Gichira, Kiangacha and adjacent customers.

In Kisumu County, the blackout will hit areas around Othoo Market from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power listed Othoo Market, Ngere, Kagoro Market, Ombeyi Market, Nyakoko Secondary School, Masogo Market and the surrounding areas as part of the planned interruption.

In Kisii County, the outage will affect parts of Keroka and Nyanturago from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power said the affected areas include Keroka Hilltop Hotel, St. Charles Lwanga Ichuni Girls, St. James Ichuni Secondary School, Keroka Technical Training College, Nyanturago Secondary School, Nyamasibi Market, Masisi Secondary School, Abuga Hotel, Matibo Secondary School, Hema Chitago Secondary School, Nyamagesa Secondary School and nearby customers.

Migori County will also be affected, with Kenya Power saying parts of Thimlich will experience a power interruption from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Areas listed include Thimlich, Nyaroya, Ongora and adjacent customers.
