Autopsy reveals how Johana Ng’eno died after chopper crash

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor has released the findings of the autopsy conducted on the victims of the helicopter crash that claimed the life of Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johana Ng’eno.

The six died after a helicopter they were travelling in crashed in Nandi Hills on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The autopsy was conducted at Lee Funeral Home in the presence of family representatives and investigators.

What autopsy revealed

The Chief Government Pathologist stated that the bodies had injuries in various parts obtained during the tragic crash.

He also added that some were burnt more than others, but all the victims were identifiable.

Upon looking at the bodies, they had varying levels of injuries, which varied from head injuries, chest injuries and spinal injuries. There were also varying levels of burns; some were burnt more than others, but they were identifiable,” he stated.

Oduor shared the conclusion arrived at following the autopsy, stating that all six victims succumbed to multiple injuries and burns sustained during the tragic crash.

“They died because of multiple injuries and the burns, and these were caused by the helicopter crash,” he stated.

Renewed calls for aviation safety

The chopper crash claimed the lives of Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ngeno, Captain George Were (pilot), forest ranger Amos Kipngetich Rotich, photojournalist Nick Kosgey, teacher Robert Kipkoech Keter and a protocol officer from Narok County, Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono.

The bodies were retrieved from the scene of the crash and taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue, and were afterwards flown to Nairobi and taken to Lee Funeral Home, with investigations launched to establish the cause of the crash.

The accident, which adds to a growing list of aviation accidents in the country, has seen calls for tighter aviation safety regulations.

Leaders from across the political divide have eulogised the deceased lawmaker as a dedicated leader who put the interests of his constituents first.

His burial is set for Friday, March 6, 2026, with the burial committee warning politicians against politicising the tragedy.
