7-day weather forecast warns of rainfall in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and other areas

According to the latest weekly report from the Kenya Meteorological Department valid from September 22, 2026, to September 28, 2026, rainfall is expected in parts of 39 counties, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kiambu, and Machakos.
What to expect in your region this week
In the Coastal strip, residents in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu will experience morning showers in several areas, followed by afternoon and night showers in a few places.
Down in the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, bright morning skies will give way to rain later in the day.
The weatherman notes that afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur in a few parts of counties such as Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, and Vihiga.
For Nairobi and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, mornings will stay mostly cool and overcast, as intermittent cloudy conditions may occur in a few parts of Nyandarua, Nakuru, Kiambu, Machakos, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Nyeri, and Tharaka-Nithi.
Afternoon showers may also develop over a few sections of these central counties.
Hot days, cold nights, and a look back at last week
Temperatures will vary significantly depending on where you live. The forecast highlights that “Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C” are expected in several counties including Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Turkana.
Lodwar and Mandera are projected to hit daytime highs of 38.0°C, while Garissa and Wajir will reach 36.0°C.
In contrast, “Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C” in some parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Narok, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado Counties.
Nyahururu is expected to drop to a chilly minimum of 4.0°C.
This forecast follows a week of heavy downpours along the Coast. In the review period between September 14, 2026, and September 20, 2026, the highest seven-day rainfall total of 105.0 mm was recorded at Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
Adu Rainfall Station in Kilifi County registered the highest daily total of 66.0 mm on September 17, 2026. Mandera recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 38.2°C on September 20, 2026, while Nyahururu recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature of 4.4°C on the same date.
The meteorology authority advises members of the public to use this weekly outlook alongside daily county forecasts.
