Photos: Central Park looks more beautiful than Uhuru Park after 5-year facelift
By William Muthama, September 17, 2026Nairobi Central Park has reopened to the public after about five years of renovation, giving residents another recreational space in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD).
The park had remained closed as rehabilitation works were carried out, with the facelift transforming several sections of the facility.
A video shared online shows the revamped park featuring wide pedestrian paths, green spaces, trees, sitting areas and covered sections where visitors can relax.
The reopening gives Nairobi residents an opportunity to walk, take photographs, spend time with family and enjoy a green space within the busy city centre.
New features unveiled
The facelift has retained much of the park’s greenery, with trees, palm trees and grass spread across different sections.
Wide pedestrian walkways run through the park, with visitors able to walk, cycle or skate around the open spaces.\
New sitting areas have also been installed, including chairs covered by canopies that provide shade for people looking to relax.
The park has washrooms, while other sections feature landscaped areas and decorative structures.
A small water body has also been incorporated into the park, with a mini bridge crossing part of the feature.
There is also a structure resembling an amphitheatre, offering another recreational space within the facility.
Several decorative sculptures can be seen around the park, including animal-shaped structures. The facility also has lighting installations, although some lighting poles remain without fixtures.
The park’s landscaping and recreational features give it a similar appearance to some of the improvements carried out at Uhuru Park.
Views across CBD
Central Park’s location provides visitors with views of some of Nairobi’s prominent buildings and roads.
From different sections of the park, visitors can see parts of the CBD as well as the Nairobi Expressway.
An access point linking the park towards Uhuru Highway was yet to be opened when the facility was visited, with visitors using the Nyayo Road side to access the park.
The renovated Central Park now offers a combination of green spaces, landscaped areas, walkways, sitting points, water features and recreational structures.
Its reopening also restores another public space in Nairobi’s city centre after years of closure.
For residents looking for a place to take a walk, relax, enjoy the greenery or spend time away from the busy CBD streets, the revamped Central Park is now open to the public.
