How to spot scammers on Ziidi Trader

By , July 19, 2026

Safaricom has warned Kenyans to look out for a new wave of financial fraud targeting its digital stock trading platform, Ziidi Trader. Fraudsters have started setting up fake websites and mobile applications to steal money from unsuspecting retail investors.

Alerting the public in a safety campaign on X on July 19, 2026, the telco noted that “ma-conman wameingia soko wakiwa na njaro mpya kila siku.”

To protect people from losing their hard-earned money, the company advised Kenyans, “Usiache jasho yako iende na maji hivyo tu.”

How to spot fake trading tricks

Legitimate stock trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange follows strict regulations and fixed operational timelines. Safaricom clarified that “NSE hu-operate Mon to Fri, 9:30 AM hadi 3:00 PM pekee msee anakuambia u-trade Sunday usiku anakuosha macho!”

Genuine stock price movements do not experience artificial, erratic jumps. Fraudsters often display unrealistic gains on cloned apps to create a false sense of urgency so that victims deposit money quickly.

Safaricom pointed out that if you see a price jump of Sh50 every two seconds, it is a scam: “Ukiona bei za Ziidi Trader zinajump na KES 50 kila sekunde mbili, ruka hiyo story real trading haina hizo madrama!”

Ways to protect your money

Real investments on the official platform do not require any brokers or online groups. Safaricom made it clear that “Ziidi Trader ni self-service, so ukiona msee anaitisha pesa ati aku-trade-ie kwa WhatsApp group, huyo ni conman!”

The official product allows users to buy and sell listed shares independently without sending cash to individuals.

The telecommunications firm also cautioned the public against clicking unverified links or downloading unknown application files. The warning specified that “Ziidi Trader haina ma-link za WhatsApp au ma-file ya .apk kila update salama iko tu ndani ya My OneApp pekee.”

Investors should only access the trading services through this authorised application.
