Global Bible engagement increased during the Easter season, with new data from the YouVersion Bible App showing a 15 per cent increase compared to 2025.

According to the YouVersion Bible App, the increase highlights a growing global interest in Scripture, particularly during one of the most significant periods on the Christian calendar.

In a statement on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Bible App revealed that an average of 18.7 million people engaged with the Bible daily throughout Holy Week.

On Easter Sunday alone, engagement soared to more than 21.6 million users, marking the highest single day in the platform’s history.

“Across the globe, Bible engagement during Holy Week grew by 15 per cent compared to last year. Every region of the world saw significant increases, including Sub-Saharan Africa with 37 per cent year-over-year growth and Latin America up 22 per cent, representing millions of people engaging with God’s Word in each region,” read the statement in part.

In Africa, Easter Sunday emerged as the top day for Bible engagement in several countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.

In Kenya, however, Palm Sunday ranked as the most active day, with Easter Sunday coming in second.

Easter continues to draw both devoted Christians and those curious about the faith to Scripture. Popular verses also reflect the season’s message.

Most shared verses

In Kenya, 2025’s most shared verse during Holy Week was John 15:13, which speaks about sacrificial love, while in 2026 it was Matthew 28:6.

John 15:13 (NIV version): “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Matthew 28:6 (NIV) states: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

YouVersion Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bobby Gruenewald stated that Easter is one of the highest days for engagement each year.

“It’s encouraging to see interest and engagement in God’s Word increase every year, especially around Easter when we remember Jesus’ sacrifice and love for the world. For anyone who isn’t already engaging with the Bible daily, there’s no better time to start than today.”

On his part, YouVersion’s Kenya Hub Leader Joseph Gachira, the rise in engagement during Easter shows how people are turning to the Bible for encouragement, guidance, and answers, whether they are long-time believers or exploring the message for the first time.

“Seeing so many Kenyans turn to Scripture is a great reminder of why we do what we do”.
