How to make rainy weather enjoyable
For many people, rainy days can feel gloomy and draining, especially when plans are cancelled and movement becomes difficult. But staying indoors does not have to be boring.
In fact, rainy weather can create the perfect chance to slow down, rest and enjoy simple comforts at home.
One of the easiest ways to enjoy a rainy day is by turning your house into a cosy space.
Many Kenyans love wrapping themselves in warm leso or hoodies, making tea or drinking hot chocolate while listening to the sound of rain outside. Others use the weather as an excuse to catch up on local shows, movies or YouTube content they have been postponing for weeks.
Rainy days are also perfect for comfort food. From smokie chapo and roasted maize to homemade ndengu stew, tea and mandazi, many people naturally crave warm meals during cold weather. Cooking can even become part of the fun, especially for families or roommates spending the day indoors together.
For people who enjoy quiet time, rain creates a relaxing atmosphere for reading, journaling, or simply resting without feeling guilty.

Some Kenyans also use such days to deep clean their homes, rearrange furniture or finally tackle chores they have been avoiding.
Others take advantage of the weather to reconnect with people. Long phone calls, board games, storytelling and family conversations tend to feel more natural when everyone is indoors, avoiding the rain.
Social media has also made rainy days feel more enjoyable, with many young Kenyans sharing cosy indoor routines on TikTok and Instagram, from movie marathons to rainy day playlists and homemade recipes.
Still, experts continue to urge Kenyans to remain careful during the ongoing rains. Authorities have warned residents to avoid walking or driving through flooded areas due to the risk of flash floods and poor visibility.
As the rainy season continues, many people are learning that sometimes the best thing to do is simply slow down, stay warm and enjoy being indoors.
