10 everyday ingredients that can make your drinking water healthier
By Cynthia Lodite, July 2, 2026Drinking enough water is one of the simplest ways to stay healthy, but many people struggle to meet their daily hydration goals because plain water can sometimes feel boring.
Fortunately, adding natural ingredients such as fruits, herbs and spices can enhance the flavour without relying on sugary drinks.
While infused water is not a miracle cure or a substitute for a balanced diet, it can make staying hydrated more enjoyable and encourage you to drink more water throughout the day.
Lemon
Lemon is one of the most popular additions to drinking water. It provides a fresh citrus flavour and contains vitamin C, an antioxidant that supports the immune system and healthy skin.
Simply squeeze half a lemon into your water or add a few slices for a refreshing drink.
Cucumber
Cucumber gives water a crisp, cooling taste and is especially refreshing during hot weather. Since cucumbers are made up mostly of water, they are a natural choice for infused drinks.
Pair cucumber slices with mint leaves for an extra burst of freshness.
Mint leaves
Fresh mint adds a clean, refreshing flavour and aroma to water. It can make hydration more enjoyable, particularly during warm days or after exercise.

Lightly crush the leaves before adding them to release their natural oils.
Ginger
Fresh ginger adds a spicy kick to water and is widely used to help ease nausea and support digestion. Slice a small piece of fresh ginger and allow it to infuse for several hours before drinking.
Berries
Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries not only add natural sweetness but also provide antioxidants that help protect the body’s cells.
For maximum flavour, gently crush a few berries before adding them to your water.
Orange slices
Oranges add a naturally sweet citrus flavour and are another good source of vitamin C. They combine well with mint or blueberries for a colourful, refreshing drink.
Lime
Like lemons, limes provide a tangy flavour that can make plain water more appealing. Lime slices also pair well with cucumber and mint.
Watermelon
Watermelon is naturally hydrating and gives infused water a subtle sweetness, making it a great choice during the warmer months.
Pineapple
Pineapple adds a tropical flavour and contains bromelain, an enzyme that may support digestion. Combine pineapple chunks with mint for a refreshing twist.
Chia Seeds
When soaked in water, chia seeds form a gel-like coating and provide fibre, omega-3 fatty acids and small amounts of protein. Some people enjoy them as part of a filling hydration drink.
Be sure to soak chia seeds properly before drinking and consume them in moderation.
