Kenyans saw countless tragedies and deaths in 2024, leaving a path of devastation in their wake.

Below is a curated list of individuals whose deaths sent shockwaves across the country.

Makanga Bae

Gerald Mwangi Njoroge, popularly known as Making Bad, unexpectedly lost his life after complications from a tragic road accident. 

Mwangi’s tragic demise was caused by multiple organ failure followed after he was involved in a road accident while on duty at the ABC roundabout along Waiyaki Way.

He suffered severe injuries that led to the amputation of one of his legs and subsequent multiple complications while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). 

His death left his fans devastated as many admired him for his exceptional conduct, dedication to his job, cleanliness and exemplary work ethic that set him apart from his peers in the matatu industry. 

Brian Chira

Renowned TikToker Brian Chira tragically lost his life in a road accident in Kiambu County on March 16, 2024. 

At the time, China was headed home from a night out at a bar in Gacharage area when he was hit by a speeding lorry as he attempted to cross the road shortly after he alighted at his home area.

This was after he was kicked out of the entertainment joint for causing a disturbance. 

His unexpected demise sent shockwaves across various media platforms with his fans mourning his untimely death.  

Major General Francis Ogolla

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Major General Francis Ogolla tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in Elgeyo Market on April 18, 2024, becoming the first Kenyan military chief to die. 

The departed general was accompanied by 11 other military personnel when the chopper crashed shortly after taking off from a primary school in Sindar area, Kaben location. 

Only two people survived the crash.

His untimely death was announced by President William Ruto in a presser, at the time, the Head of State declared three days of national mourning and disclosed the names of other military personnel who died in the tragedy. 

Ogolla’s death shocked Kenyans countrywide as it left a void and a remarkable memory that lingers in the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and the country. 

Fredrick Omondi

Fredrick Omondi’s death came as a shocker for many, especially the entertainment industry where he worked as a comedian. 

Omondi who is the brother to fellow comedian Eric Omondi died in a road accident along Kangundo Road in Nairobi on June 15, 2024.

Heartfelt tributes from the entertainment industry poured in for the 28-year-old with many describing his death as a sad day for the entertainment industry. 

Jahmby Koikai

Radio personality Jahmby Koikai lost her life after succumbing to endometriosis complications on June 4, 2024. 

The popular radio personality was receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital when she lost her life.

She had been battling Thoracic endometriosis, a rare but extreme condition that manifests by the presence of endometriosis in or around the lungs. 

Prior to her untimely death, the radio presenter turned reggae MC had documented her journey with endometriosis struggles and her fans walked with her every step of the way.
