Zippy Okoth hits back at critics questioning her right to give marriage advice
Celebrated Kenyan filmmaker and lecturer Zippy Okoth has clapped back at critics who questioned her right to give marriage advice on social media.
The critic suggested that she is not married officially, does not have a child, and therefore does not understand marriage or parental responsibility. In response, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, Zippy chose a light but firm tone.
She said, “I am in the mood for being Petty,” setting the tone for her reply.

The critic accused her of speaking on matters she supposedly knows nothing about. It claimed she does not understand marriage and should not be advising married men and women. Zippy addressed this directly and explained that the claims were not accurate.
She noted that while some people reacted emotionally, she was focused on clearing the record.
“Haki others have caught feelings and abused me,” she said.
Clarifying her past and present
Zippy went on to explain that she has, in fact, been married before.
She stated clearly, “Just inform him I have been married officially before and I have a Decree Nisi Absolute for 10 years.”
She dismissed the claim that she has no experience with marriage at all. Her response was meant to correct the record rather than escalate the exchange, and she asked that no one be attacked over the issue.

At the same time, Zippy admitted that her journey has not been perfect or complete.
She openly said, “And true, I don’t know what marriage is, and I truly yearn for one.”
Her statement showed that she was acknowledging that marriage is complex and personal. Rather than presenting herself as an expert, she framed her views as coming from lived experience and personal desire.
Zippy also used humour to end her response on a lighter note. She said that if a man decides to take cows to Moo in her father’s compound, she would be very happy. She added that her people would dance, painting a joyful picture of a future she still hopes for.
