Top 20 most-streamed songs of all time on Spotify
By Ascah Mwango, April 28, 2026As Spotify marks two decades of revolutionizing the music industry, the platform has unveiled the “Golden 20″—the most streamed tracks in history.
From indie-rock sleepers to viral pop juggernauts, the list provides a fascinating roadmap of our collective listening habits since 2006.
Topping the list is none other than The Weeknd, whose 80s-inspired synth-pop hit ‘Blinding Lights’ has cemented its place as the undisputed king of the digital era.
The track, which seems to have a permanent residence in the global Top 50, leads a diverse field that proves a “hit” today can come from anywhere – be it a Marvel movie soundtrack or a moody indie ballad from a decade ago.
British export Ed Sheeran remains a formidable force in the rankings, boasting two entries in the top ten with the ubiquitous ‘Shape of You’ and the wedding staple ‘Perfect’.
However, the list also highlights the power of the ‘sleeper hit’.
The Neighbourhood’s ‘Sweater Weather’ and Arctic Monkeys’ ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ have both surged into the all-time Top 20 years after their initial release, fueled by relentless popularity on social media platforms like TikTok.

The new arrivals
While veterans like Coldplay hold strong with the timeless ‘Yellow’, the list shows that the hierarchy is constantly being challenged.
Billie Eilish has proven her immense streaming power with two entries, including the haunting ‘Lovely’ and her more recent smash ‘Birds of a Feather’.
Perhaps the most impressive feat comes from Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, whose collaboration ‘Die With A Smile’ has managed to outpace thousands of older tracks to crack the all-time Top 20.
