TikTokers visit Boniface Kariuki’s grave months after his fatal shooting while hawking masks

A section of Kenyan TikTokers has paid a visit to the grave of Boniface Kariuki, the mask vendor who died tragically on June 30, 2025, after being shot during the Gen Z protests.
The TikTokers included MC Chris Kirubi and Priscilla wa Imani, among others.
In a post shared on Facebook on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the TikTokers are seen engaging with Boniface’s family members and offering them comfort following the tragic and untimely death of their son.
They then proceeded to his grave, where they observed a moment of silence as they reflected on his young soul and the beautiful life he had lived before his passing.
In the photos, the TikTokers are seen raising the Kenyan flag near the grave and making a heartfelt prayer as they asked God to continue resting his soul in eternal peace.
While sharing the photos, MC Chris revealed that the plans to visit the grave had emerged spontaneously from a suggestion made on the video-sharing app and appreciated that a majority of his colleagues had honoured the call.
Further, he expressed hope that his family will one day receive justice for the manner in which he died and has urged his fans to send monetary support to his mother, who continues to grieve to this day.
“Today we visited Mama Boni from just a TikTok live suggestion; we met new faces with the same agenda. The spirit is still awake, only for truth and justice. Please send something to Mama Boni on 0700463254,” he wrote.

Constable Barasa’s account
Appearing before Justice Kanyi Kimondo on Monday, July 28, 2025, Klinzy pleaded not guilty to the murder of the mask hawker outside Imenti House in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) during the June 17, 2025, protests.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) proposed a murder charge against the accused, contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
The defence team requested the court to grant them 14 days to make an application for Klinzy to be released on bail or bond.
However, the prosecutor, Vincent Monda, informed court that they are opposing the application for bond and they have filed an affidavit on the same.

“My lord, we are opposing the bond application by the defence team, and we have already filed an affidavit opposing the accused being released on bond,” Prosecutor Monda told the court.
In response, the defence team told the court that they were ready to argue the application for bail opposition.
Direction on bail
Justice Kimondo directed the defence team to file their application for bail within seven days, and the family of the victim to respond within seven days.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased vendor protested outside the court after the plea taking, accusing the presiding judge and the accused of wearing masks during the court proceedings.
They contended that the judge should have ordered the accused to take off the mask so that they could prove that the accused was the person who killed their kin.
“Why did the judge not tell him to take off the mask? We do not even know whether we are dealing with the same person; he should have been ordered to remove the mask for us to confirm,” the relatives protested.
