TikToker Geoffrey opens up on fear of dying abroad, burdening family with body repatriation costs

Germany-based Kenyan TikToker Geoffrey, popularly known on the video-sharing app as comedian Choffri, has opened up about the deep fears that haunt him while living and working abroad.

Speaking in a TikTok live on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Geoffrey shared that one of his biggest worries is the possibility of dying while overseas and the potential difficulty his family could face in repatriating his body to Kenya.

“I wondered what would happen if I died now, yet my family hasn’t received the support they need. I worried whether they would be able to fund the repatriation of my body from here,” he said.

The content creator explained that this fear has motivated him to work tirelessly online and save as much money as possible, ensuring that he can provide his family with the financial security he believes they deserve.

“That’s why I push myself to stay online, put in the effort, earn money, and give my family a good life so that they can be happy,” he shared.

He described how he has witnessed the toll that financial hardship has taken on his younger siblings, noting how he felt his younger brother looked older than him due to the stresses of poverty.

“For example, I recently saw my younger brother looking older than me, even though I am older than him. I realised it was because they don’t have money. Sometimes, money can make a person look younger and healthier. I don’t like seeing my family age prematurely; I want them to look smart and well, even though we grew up without much. Once I come to Kenya, I plan to do a lot for them,” he said.

Geoffrey also reflected on the emotional struggles he has faced abroad, including moments of depression and relying on alcohol to cope.

He admitted that the awareness of his family’s needs and the thought of leaving them without support were constant reminders that he had to stay focused and work hard.

“That’s why I sometimes drank alcohol, but even then, I knew that drinking could be harmful and even kill me,” he said.

He also shared his plans to return to Kenya as soon as he can, explaining that he wants to be with his parents and provide for them while they are still alive.

Geoffrey described the bittersweet nature of living abroad, feeling both grateful for the opportunities he has had and pained by the distance from his loved ones.

“When I come to Kenya, I will carry many things with me. Kenya, when I land, it will be soon. Right now, I’m just looking for more money, because once I land, I will need a lot. At the very least, I want to come to Kenya and meet my parents before they pass away. I thank God for how He has helped me here abroad, because many people struggle with depression while living overseas,” he said.
