Kenyan socialite Amber Ray has come out explaining why women are unsafe following the circulation of a viral video showing a woman in a vulnerable state while intoxicated at an entertainment venue in Nairobi.

Taking to her Instagram account on Monday, January 19, 2026, Amber called out the man who recorded the video.

On her part, she maintains that a woman in a vulnerable state should not be put up as content.

“What I saw wasn’t just a video. It was a reminder of how unsafe the world still is for women. A woman in a vulnerable state is not a joke. She is not “content.” She is not a lesson to be learned the hard way,” Amber wrote.

While calling out the act, Amber explained that despite the lady being intoxicated, filming her in her most vulnerable state was violence dressed up as entertainment.

“When someone records a woman who cannot defend herself…when they touch her, expose her, laugh at her … that is not drunkenness at play,” Amber stated. Further adding, “That is character. That is entitlement. That is violence dressed up as entertainment.”

Salasya’s remarks on the video

On the other hand, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has further appealed for calm and understanding after the viral video sparked reactions online.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, January 19, 2025, Salasya addressed rumours surrounding the incident and efforts to resolve the matter amicably.

He said he had spoken to Nairobi County Government’s Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Care, Geoffrey Mosiria, regarding reports that the man linked to the incident had been arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

“I have talked with @geoffrey_mosiria concerning the rumours of the arrest of Mr Opunde at JKIA police station, and I have confirmed Mr Opunde hasn’t been arrested,” Salasya said.

He added that he had advised Mosiria and the woman involved to withdraw any statements that may have been recorded and said he was willing to bring the parties together to resolve the matter without financial demands.

“I have accepted to unite the girl, Mosiria and Opunde on any issue without exchanging money, but as friends and people who understand that what happened was because both were tipsy. Kenyans boy child ako sawa na hajashikwa ignore the rumours,” Salasya stated.
