Ritchie Mdosi: Kenyan producer reveals why wife left him 2 years after Ksh15M wedding
By Steve Ireri, December 8, 2025Kenyan video director Ritchie Mdosi has spoken for the first time about what could have led to his breakup with ex-wife Rena Solomon, despite holding a show-stopping Ksh15 million wedding in December 2023.
Speaking during an interview with Nicholas Kioko on Monday, December 8, 2025, Ritchie shared that he cannot precisely pinpoint what triggered the separation but said that public scrutiny and constant questioning about his personal life created immense pressure.
He explained that appearances in public without his wife led to repeated enquiries from fans, social media users, and even individuals from abroad, all asking about the whereabouts of his spouse, which intensified the stress surrounding their marriage.
“I did my wedding in December 2023. If God helps us reunite, that’s okay, but if not, that’s also fine. The pressure from the internet has been intense, with people constantly asking where my wife is and why I appear in public alone. Some of it was genuine concern, but for others, it felt like pressure. I’ve even received calls from abroad asking about my wife’s whereabouts.” Ritchie shared.
Ritchie recalled that he and Rena Solomon had been together for 14 years before tying the knot, and that although their wedding was a grand celebration, they only stayed married for two years.
He said that the breakup had actually occurred almost a year ago but became public knowledge only two weeks ago, and he emphasised that keeping the separation private had been a conscious choice.
“After being with my partner for 14 years. After the wedding, we stayed together for only two years before breaking up. The breakup actually happened about a year ago, but people only learned about it two weeks ago. I had been keeping it private,” he said.

The producer then reflected on the financial and social pressures surrounding their marriage, recalling that the wedding itself had cost approximately Ksh15 million.
He said that though the sum is substantial, he does not regret spending because it was meant to celebrate years of shared love.
“I don’t want us to push too hard to reunite in a way that could lead to conflict or harm. The wedding itself cost approximately Ksh15 million. It was a lot, considering we eventually broke up, but I do not regret it because it was a celebration of love and the years we shared,” the producer said.
Ritchie said that the intense attention from the public and social media, coupled with unsolicited questions and commentary, contributed to ongoing stress in his life.
He added that, despite efforts to reconcile, the only fruitful outcome of discussions over the past year has been ensuring the welfare of their children, and he underscored that attempting to force a reunion could have created more harm than good.
“I still believe marriage works despite my own experience. I see people whose marriages succeed, like the WaJesus family, the Murayas, and others. People go through issues—some you can solve, others you cannot, and sometimes you simply haven’t found the right person. Since we broke up, I’ve made efforts to communicate with my ex-wife. People online even asked my family to intervene to see whether we could rekindle our relationship, but our discussions have mostly focused on our children,” he said.
