Record unbroken! Dennis Itumbi attempts tree-hugging record, manages 72 seconds

Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, Dennis Itumbi, recently took on a light-hearted challenge to hug a tree for 72 seconds.

The exercise was inspired by and conducted under the watch of tree-hugging champion Truphena Muthoni. In a video shared on Instagram on Monday, December 15, 2025, by SPM Buzz, Dennis is seen alongside Truphena as she starts counting for him.

“1,2,3,4…,” Truphena begins, prompting Dennis to comment, “Hehh inakuanga slow hivyo?”

The challenge comes as a fun way to promote environmental awareness while highlighting the achievements of Truphena Muthoni, who recently made headlines for her record-breaking tree-hugging feat.

Dennis participated fully, showing enthusiasm and humour throughout the brief but symbolic activity. The interaction was light-hearted and showcased the lighter side of public service involvement in environmental initiatives.

Celebrating Truphena Muthoni

Truphena Muthoni recently received national recognition after her 72-hour tree-hugging record went viral. President William Ruto awarded her the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC) for her dedication to environmental stewardship.

In a post on his official X account on Monday, December 15, 2025, President Ruto announced, “As a mark of national honour for her exemplary service to environmental stewardship, I have conferred upon Truphena Muthoni the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal.”

During the award ceremony at State House, Nairobi, Ruto praised Truphena, noting that her dedication and determination “embody the very best of our Kenya’s spirit.” The award highlights the importance of environmental activism and encourages citizens to participate in conservation efforts.
