Philip Karanja and Butita share personal experience dating Gen Z

Filmmakers and digital content creators Philip Karanja and Eddie Butita have opened up about their experiences dating Gen Z.

The two who have publicly disclosed their love life recently. shared some of the unique challenges and fun quirks that come with dating the younger generation

Speaking during the Big 6 roundtable conversation with Abel Mutua, Judy Nyawira, Timothy Kimani and Celestine Ndinda, Butita revealed that keeping up with Gen Z can be entertaining but also confusing at times.

He further highlighted how different music tastes are between the millennials and Gen Z.

Apart from music, Butita also revealed that another challenge he faces is understanding the slang his girlfriend uses in her day-to-day communication.

“It is fun, guys; sisi watu wa Gen Z tunasikia fiti. But Clock it, playlist hauelewi, ” Butita stated.

On the other hand, Philip Karanja added that some of the trends can feel intense, joking about the seriousness of certain social media habits, particularly when it comes to TikTok trends.

“Assignments, hiyo kitu ni serious, TikTok assignments, hiyo kitu kama unataka mkosane kosa kufanya TikTok assignment. Their language is TikTok, so they express how they are feeling or go through alafu wanakutumia videos on TikTok,” Karanja said, explaining how TikTok has become a language for expressing feelings and experiences in relationships.

He further noted that Gen Z has many unique holidays, some of which he had never heard of before, such as Girlfriend’s Day, explaining that even small details can carry significant meaning for the younger generation.

‘Holidays wanazo mingi zengine sijawai sikia my entire life, Girlfriend’s Day, hiyo kitu ni serious,” he added.

According to Karanja and Butita, dating Gen Z requires patience, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace their culture, from music and slang to social media trends and new ways of celebrating relationships.

Butita’s love life

The stand-up publicly revealed that he was dating Celest Terer after breaking up with fellow comedian Eunice Mammito.

Butita and Celest have been sharing several cosy photos and videos online. A few weeks back, he took her to meet his grandmother in their rural home, marking a significant family introduction.

The meeting culminated in a warm embrace between Terer and Butita’s grandmother, who appeared overjoyed by the long-awaited encounter. The display of affection captured a softer, more personal side of the comedian, away from his usual humorous public persona.

Karanja’s girlfriend

Karanja is currently dating Mukami Maina, who happens to be a friend of his ex-wife, actress Catherine Kamau, alias Kate actress.

Mukami and Kate are still on good terms, even after Phil publicly announced their relationship, she sent a warm message directed at Mukami.

“To happiness baby girl,”Kate wrote.
