Oga Obinna thrilled after earning his first degree
By Valerian Khakayi, December 5, 2025Stand-up comedian and media personality Steve Thompson Maghana, widely known as Oga Obinna, has celebrated a major milestone after graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in Mass Media and Communication (Public Relations option) from Mount Kenya University.
Reflecting on his journey, Obinna took to his official Instagram account on Friday, December 5, 2025, and shared that it has been a long and challenging ride.
Despite the struggles, the media personality was able to conquer and bag his first degree.
“From the village to the city to the streets to the hustle, the struggle and back to school. Been an interesting ride,” Obinna reflected.
“Today I graduate with a FIRST CLASS HONOURS.BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MASS MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION (PR OPTION) 🎖 From THEEEEEE M.K.U. So it has been possible all along!”
He expressed gratitude to God for guidance throughout the journey, adding that his own perseverance played a key role in achieving the milestone.
“I want to thank GOD. He has never left my side, silently guided me on what to do and how to, even when other mortals wouldn’t understand what, why or how.
Secondly I wanna thank ME! Oga@DTop for trusting my Intuition and NEVER GIVING UP!” he thanked God.
Oga Obinna described this achievement as his first degree, promising that it would not be the last.
He further thanked his family, lecturers, and classmates for their support.
This milestone not only marks academic success but also showcases Obinna’s dedication and resilience, inspiring many who are juggling life, work, and studies.

“My first DEGREE!!!!!! Many more to come INSHALLAH. My FAMILY, My Lecturers, my schoolmates, and my Family Asante, ya’ll made it easier and efficient for me to do this,” he added.
Despite not having an academic background in media before, Oga Obinna built an impressive career, working in multiple media houses over the years.
This degree in Mass Media and Communication is a milestone that will open even bigger doors for him in the industry, allowing him to take on new opportunities and further cement his place in the media world.
