Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has said Lang’ata people have blessed him as he targets the Nairobi Senator seat.

Jalang’o announced his intention to run for the Nairobi Senate seat in the 2027 General Election.

“Mimi nishaamua kupanda juu, watu wangu wa Langata wamenibariki, mimi naweza kuwa Senator wa Nairobi. Ni mbaya!” he said on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, highlighting the support he has received from his constituents.

Jalang’o emphasised that his decision is personal and comes after years of engaging with Nairobi residents. He said he has observed the political landscape and feels prepared to take on a larger role.

“Nawania kiti cha senator…Mimi huamua na naendea. Mimi nakuambia naweza kuwa gavana wa Nairobi, na naweza kuwa seneta wa Nairobi, na naweza kuwa mbunge wa Lang’ata, na naweza kuwa mbunge wa pahali popote hapa Nairobi. Maana nimetembea, nimesikia, nimewaongelesha… why not? Nitaendea!” he earlier said on a local radio station.

The MP made it clear that his bid for the Senate is not influenced by external forces, including President William Ruto, but is solely his own decision.

He said he has spent considerable time listening to residents, understanding their challenges, and believes he can represent their interests effectively at the Senate level.

Jalango’s political experience and ambitions

Speaking during that same radio breakfast show, Jalang’o explained that his political experience backs his decision. He highlighted his years as a first-term MP in Langata, where he has engaged with constituents on issues affecting their daily lives.

“Mimi nishaamua kupanda juu, watu wangu wa Langata wamenibariki,” he said, pointing to the encouragement he has received from the community.

He believes his local work gives him the credibility and insight to compete for the Nairobi Senate seat.

Jalang’o will be challenging Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the upcoming 2027 elections. He said he is ready to take on the challenge and will focus on the needs of Nairobi residents.

His campaign, he noted, will emphasise grassroots engagement, listening to voters, and addressing citywide issues that affect livelihoods, transport, and public services.

The MP concluded by expressing confidence in his ability to serve at higher levels of government.

“Maana nimetembea, nimesikia, nimewaongelesha… why not? Nitaendea!” he said, signalling his readiness to take his political journey to the next stage.
