Kikuyu singer Ngaruiya Junior has broken his silence following a food poisoning incident that affected attendees at a dinner party held to mark the release of his new song on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

The event, hosted at a popular hotel along Thika Road, brought together fans and fellow artistes, including Evangelist Lucy Wa Ngunjiri, Karangu Muraya, Ben Githae, Loise Kim, and the widower of Betty Bayo, Tash, among others. Shortly after dining, several attendees fell ill and required urgent medical attention.

Ngaruiya, speaking about the development on Thursday, December 4, 2025, revealed that a total of 30 people, including singers, had to be rushed to hospitals after developing stomach complications.

He said that most of them were treated and discharged, with only one person, identified as Don, still admitted at St Mary’s Hospital along Kiambu Road.

“In total, 30 people were affected and rushed to hospitals. Currently, only one person, Don, remains admitted at St Mary’s along Kiambu Road; the rest have been treated and discharged. I thank the hospitals for their prompt care and for preventing any fatalities,” he said.

The singer said he has demanded a full report from the hotel management within 24 hours, seeking clarity on what caused the food poisoning and whether it resulted from contaminated ingredients, mishandling, or another factor.

Ngaruiya added that he has also reported the matter to the county government, the national Department of Health, and the police, all of whom are investigating the incident.

“I ask my friends to be patient while the authorities conclude their investigations. Health officials visited on Monday, but no official statement has been issued yet. “I want that hotel to listen carefully. I want you to provide a full report within 24 hours detailing what happened to my friends, what went wrong with the food, and what occurred after they ate. I paid you fully to deliver good food and services for my friends, and I want justice for them and for everyone who attended. I need to know if someone deliberately poisoned the food or if it was an issue with the meat or preparation. I have already reported this to the county government, the national Department of Health, and the police, who are now investigating,” he said.

Rumours

In the same statement, Ngaruiya also addressed rumours suggesting he had intentionally not eaten the food because he was responsible for the food poisoning.

He refuted such claims, explaining that upon arriving at the hotel, he was under immense pressure over the event’s turnout and had not eaten beforehand.

He said he only consumed meat that a fellow artiste, Martin Wa Janet, was eating because he was not in the mood to eat while he was uncertain that the event would succeed.

“On why I did not eat the food myself, when I arrived at the hotel, I was under so much pressure about the event and the turnout. I had not eaten, so I only had the meat that singer Martin wa Janet was eating. I was not in the mood to eat while everyone else was dining. My focus was on managing the event and ensuring my friends were safe, not on eating,” he added.
