Netflix teases return of Money Heist world with continuing storyline

By , May 10, 2026

Netflix has hinted at the return of the Money Heist universe, confirming that the global crime drama’s story is far from over.

The streaming platform made the announcement through its official account on Sunday, May 10, 2026, writing: “The revolution isn’t over yet. The world of LA CASA DE PAPEL continues…” Netflix wrote.

Franchise expansion

The message signals a continued expansion of the Money Heist universe, one of Netflix’s most successful non-English franchises.

While the original series concluded in 2021 after five seasons, the platform has since shifted focus to building a wider narrative world rather than extending the main storyline.

A key part of this expansion is Berlin, the spin-off centred on the popular character Andrés de Fonollosa. The series explores his earlier life and past heists, offering fans a deeper look into the universe without reopening the original ending.

No season 6 return

Despite renewed excitement online, there is no indication that Money Heist will return for a direct Season 6. Netflix has previously confirmed that the original story reached its conclusion with Part 5.

Instead, future content is expected to focus on spin-offs and character-driven stories set within the same universe, allowing the franchise to grow in different directions.

Global impact

Since its debut, Money Heist has become one of Netflix’s biggest global hits, breaking language barriers and turning into a cultural phenomenon.

The red jumpsuit, Dali mask and Bella Ciao anthem became instantly recognisable symbols worldwide.

It also reshaped Netflix’s global strategy, proving the strength of international storytelling on a massive scale.

The series has earned over 60 awards and more than 100 nominations worldwide, making it one of the most decorated non-English productions in streaming history.

Its biggest breakthrough came in 2018 when it won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series, cementing its global reputation and paving the way for its worldwide success on Netflix.
