Nameless reflects on silent struggle of learning to survive the music industry while drowning in noise

He has spent twenty years at the summit of the African music charts, but today, the man known as Nameless has admitted that his journey was often a lonely, unguided trek through a psychological wilderness.

In a raw and philosophical interview on K24 this Friday, April 17, 2026, the father-of-three, real name is David Mathenge, lifted the lid on the “internal noise” that comes with being a national treasure.

The Sinzia hitmaker confessed that despite his outward appearance of total control, he was often “very unsure” of his next move, forced to educate himself in an industry that offers no curriculum for survival.

“There is no school for you, you have to be your own teacher,” the icon admitted during the candid broadcast. “Sometimes you have to be very unsure about the future, you have many voices.”

While most fans see the accolades and the sold-out stadiums, Nameless described a much more chaotic internal reality. He revealed that the “many voices” a cocktail of industry pressure, public expectation, and internal critique often made the path forward feel like a blur.

Without a mentor or a “superstar manual” to guide him, the Architect-turned-singer had to develop his own survival mechanisms to keep from drowning in the noise of the entertainment machine.

“You have to be your own teacher,” he reiterated, highlighting the gruelling trial-and-error process that defined his early career.

This latest admission adds another layer to the singer’s complex relationship with fame. Earlier, he touched upon the exhaustion of merging his naturally quiet, introverted personality with the loud, demanding persona required of a pop star.

Insiders say his ability to “teach himself” how to navigate these two worlds is what has allowed him to stay relevant while many of his contemporaries have faded into obscurity.

Despite the uncertainty, Nameless’s “self-taught” approach has clearly paid dividends. Alongside his wife, Wahu, he has managed to build a multi-generational legacy that transcends music, touching on fashion, family values, and business.

But as he told K24 listeners today, that success was born out of a willingness to be “unsure” and the courage to trust his own voice above the “many” clamouring for his attention.
