Enola Holmes 3 review: Everything you need to know before watching

Netflix has revived its popular detective franchise with Enola Holmes 3, delivering another entertaining blend of mystery, action and comedy.

Released on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the third instalment reunites Millie Bobby Brown with Henry Cavill, Louis Partridge and Helena Bonham Carter while introducing a fresh mystery set against the picturesque backdrop of Malta.

Directed by Philip Barantini, the film runs for just under two hours, making it an easy watch for fans of mystery adventures and family-friendly entertainment.

Mystery takes centre

This time, Enola Holmes heads to Malta expecting to marry Lord Tewkesbury. However, her plans are thrown into chaos after her brother, Sherlock Holmes, suddenly disappears.

Determined to uncover what happened, Enola finds herself chasing clues across the Mediterranean as she uncovers a dangerous conspiracy involving kidnappings, hidden treasure, colonial-era secrets and the return of familiar enemies.

The story balances emotional family moments with suspense, allowing Enola to grow as both a detective and a young woman trying to navigate love, responsibility and independence.

Malta also proves to be one of the film’s biggest strengths. The island’s historic streets, coastal scenery and ancient buildings give the mystery a refreshing change of scenery from the foggy streets of London featured in the earlier films.

Strong performances shine

Millie Bobby Brown once again carries the film with confidence and charisma. Her performance feels more mature than in the previous instalments while maintaining Enola’s trademark humour, intelligence and habit of breaking the fourth wall to speak directly to viewers.

Louis Partridge returns as the loyal Tewkesbury, sharing warm chemistry with Brown throughout the film.

Henry Cavill has a smaller role than before, but his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes remains one of the highlights whenever he appears on screen.

Helena Bonham Carter also returns as Eudoria Holmes, adding humour and heart to the family dynamic, while newcomer Himesh Patel makes a welcome addition as Dr Watson.

The action sequences are entertaining without becoming overwhelming, featuring disguises, rooftop chases, sword fights and clever detective work that keep the story moving.

Worth Watching?

While Enola Holmes 3 may not quite recapture the freshness of the original film, it remains an enjoyable sequel.

Some parts of the mystery become predictable, and the middle section occasionally loses momentum before picking up again for a satisfying finale.

Still, the film succeeds as light-hearted entertainment thanks to its charming cast, beautiful locations and engaging performances.

Fans of the first two films are likely to enjoy this latest chapter, while newcomers can still follow the story without much difficulty.
