Mosiria speaks out against child abuse after disturbing footage surfaces

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has condemned a disturbing incident in which a young girl was brutally beaten by a group of people using canes, saying violence against children can never be justified.
In a statement issued through his Instagram account on Friday, March 6, 2026, Mosiria expressed outrage over the incident after sharing a video showing the child being whipped repeatedly by adults.
“No child deserves this kind of beating, even if he has committed a grave mistake. Violence against a child can never be justified. As a society, we must protect our children, guide them, and correct them humanely and lawfully,” Mosiria stated.
The county official said brutality against minors only exposes the failure of adults to act responsibly and compassionately.
“Brutality only destroys lives and reflects a failure of responsibility from the adults involved. Every child deserves dignity, protection, and a chance to be corrected without cruelty,” he added.
Mosiria, who has built a reputation for speaking out on social issues affecting city residents, urged members of the public to embrace discipline that respects children’s rights and well-being. He warned that normalising violence against minors risks creating a society where abuse becomes routine instead of being confronted.
The outspoken county official has, in the past, drawn public attention for stepping in during humanitarian situations in the city. On several occasions, he has used his social media platforms to highlight cases involving vulnerable people, including children and homeless individuals in Nairobi’s central business district.
In one case, he shared the rescue of a young boy he found in distress within the CBD, using the incident to call for greater protection of children living in difficult conditions.
