Mosiria overjoyed after heartwarming visit to Simba Wanyika legend
By David Nthua, February 17, 2026Nairobi County Customer Care and Citizens’ Engagement head Geoffrey Mosiria has expressed joy after visiting legendary Simba Wanyika musician William Peter Kinyonga at a county home for the elderly.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Mosiria said he was pleased to find the once-struggling music icon safe and stable.
“This is the legendary William Peter Kinyonga, a former member of Simba Wanyika, one of the greatest bands that shaped East Africa’s rumba music.
“Sadly, late last year, I found him struggling and living on the streets, a situation no icon of his calibre deserves,” Mosiria wrote.

He explained that upon discovering Kinyonga’s situation, he stepped in to ensure the veteran musician was rescued and placed under proper care.
“I stepped in and rescued him to ensure he received the care, dignity, and support he needed,” he said.
Kinyonga is currently staying at Mji wa Huruma, Nairobi County’s home for the elderly, where he is receiving accommodation and support.
Call for family support
Mosiria said he recently visited the musician to check on his well-being and was encouraged by his condition.

“Yesterday, I went to visit him at Mji wa Huruma, our county home for the elderly, to check on how he is faring, and I’m happy to say that he is safe, stable, and doing well,” he shared.
He urged family members and friends of the rumba legend to visit and continue supporting him emotionally.
“I still call upon his family members and friends to visit him and continue supporting him. As a government, we remain committed to protecting the elderly, rescuing them from the streets, and restoring their dignity,” Mosiria added.
Simba Wanyika remains one of East Africa’s most influential rumba bands, having shaped generations of music lovers across the region.
Mosiria concluded with a message encouraging compassion.

“Let us all be remembered as people who changed society, even if it’s by helping just one person off the streets and giving them hope again.”
The update has warmed the hearts of many Kenyans online, with calls to honour veteran artists who once shaped the region’s cultural identity.
