Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has provided an update on William Peter Kinyonga, a man he rescued from the streets of Nairobi.

In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Mosiria said Kinyonga is currently safe and under proper care after being rescued a few months ago. He confirmed that the musician was admitted to Mji wa Huruma, a home that supports elderly people in need.

Mosiria noted that many Kenyans had been asking about Kinyonga’s condition, prompting him to give the update. He said the former band member is doing well at the facility and is no longer exposed to the harsh life he had been facing while living on the streets.

“Do you remember William Peter Kinyonga, a member of Simba Wanyika, whom I rescued from the streets a few months ago? Many have been asking about him, and today I’m glad to confirm that he was taken to Mji wa Huruma, where he is safe and doing well. I still call upon his family members to visit him there. As a government, we remain committed to protecting the elderly, rescuing them from the streets, and restoring their dignity,” Mosiria stated.

The Chief Officer urged Kinyonga’s relatives to visit him at home and take part in supporting him. He stressed the importance of families standing with their loved ones, especially in old age.

He also reaffirmed Nairobi County’s commitment to rescuing vulnerable elderly people and ensuring they live in dignity. According to Mosiria, the county government will continue working to remove senior citizens from the streets and place them in safer environments.

Mosiria encouraged members of the public to take responsibility in their own small ways by helping those who are struggling. He said those who step in to assist others will be remembered for contributing to a better and more caring society.

“Be among those who will be remembered for changing society by helping rescue someone from the streets.”
