Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has called on residents and motorists to exercise extra caution as the city experiences ongoing heavy rains.

In a statement shared via his X account on Thursday, March 5, 2026, Mosiria urged everyone to stay alert and prioritise safety.

“Following the ongoing rains in Nairobi, I would like to appeal to all residents and motorists to exercise caution. As you drive, please remain vigilant and careful to avoid accidents on the wet roads,” Mosiria said, reminding city dwellers that slippery streets are no joke, even if puddles look fun.

He reassured residents that no floods have been reported in the Nairobi CBD so far and that county emergency response teams are ready to act if needed.

“I also urge city residents, especially those who have constructed structures along riverbanks, to ensure they move at least 30 metres away from both sides of the river from the riparian land. This is important to prevent loss of life from possible floods and also to allow room for the Nairobi River regeneration and the ongoing efforts to reclaim and restore rivers across the city,” Mosiria added.

“Let us all remain alert, prioritise safety, and work together to protect lives and our environment,” Mosiria said.

The rains in Nairobi are part of a wider wet spell affecting much of Kenya. The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue across the country, with some areas seeing rainfall amounts of 30–50 millimetres in 24 hours. Low-lying regions and river-adjacent communities are particularly at risk of flash floods.

Pedestrians and drivers have already faced challenges this week, from waterlogged streets to slower traffic and reduced visibility. Authorities, including KeNHA, have urged motorists to drive carefully, maintain safe distances, and avoid overtaking in poor conditions.
