Mbavu Destroyer breaks silence after knockout loss to Majembe

Fast-rising boxer Mbavu Destroyer, born Ferdinand Omondi, has finally spoken out after his shocking knockout defeat to Portifas Odipo, better known as Majembe, in the much-hyped Vurugu Fight Night.

The bout, which had captured national attention after going viral on social media, ended dramatically when Majembe delivered a decisive knockout, silencing Mbavu and his supporters.

Speaking after the fight, Mbavu did not hold back his frustration, claiming the match crossed the line from boxing into something far more dangerous.

Umenivunja njwang’a ni sawa. Siku hizi Boxing imekua kupigana njwang’a….aina noma ….Mgenisho Sii boxing pia mimi nivuke na balls….This is not boxing,” Mbavu the destroyer said.

It loosely translates to “You broke me with low blows… nowadays, boxing has turned into hitting below the belt.” This is not boxing.”

Vurugu boxing challenge

Majembe emerged as the winner of the Vurugu Boxing Challenge after beating his rival, Mbavu Destroyer, in three rounds at Kasarani Indoor Arena, Nairobi, on Saturday night, April 4, 2026.

Majembe was declared the winner by unanimous decision after scoring more points from the three judges against his much-hyped rival, Mbavu Destroyer.

The bout initially scheduled for ten rounds only lasted for four rounds and was called off after Mbavu Destroyer was unable to carry on after sustaining what appeared to be a blow below the belt.

Oga Obinna, the Vurugu Match organiser, and Reuben Ndolo, the boxing official, handed over the winner’s belt to the eventual winner.

The bout kicked off high, with Majembe going for the jugular, hunting down Mbavu Destroyer right in his corner.

Mbavu Destroyer, on his part, proved more cautious, opting for a more defensive strategy against his opponent.

The trend continued in the second round, with the intense exchange prompting a minor delay after fans stormed the region across the ring to clear up.

Majembe continued the slight dominance as he kept his pursuit of Mbavu Destroyer in the subsequent rounds.

The fourth round kicked off with Mbavu Destroyer sustaining what appeared to be a right hook below the belt that sent him to the canvas.

A lengthy spell of delay ensued as Mbavu Destroyer was attended by the medics.

As he was unable to continue, the fight was discontinued, leaving the judges to deliver the result from the four rounds.
