Maureen Waititu: People who shame single moms make me sick
By Paulette Mboga, December 13, 2025Maureen Waititu has spoken out strongly against people who shame single mothers, saying the behaviour makes her sick.
In an Instagram message on Saturday, December 13, 2025, she said, “People who do this to single mothers make me sick.”
She went on to defend single mothers, adding that they are often misunderstood and unfairly judged in society. Maureen described single mothers as hardworking and deserving of respect.
She said, “Single moms are the most noble, hardworking women I know.”

Her statement directly challenged the culture of shaming women who raise children on their own. She added that the judgment often says more about others than the women being attacked, calling it “the irony that shames the parents who stay.”
To support her message, Maureen shared a video on Instagram of a random man speaking in defence of single mothers. In the video, the man questioned why society treats single mothers with cruelty.
He asked, “Why do we have to be this way? Why is there a culture of dehumanising single mothers?”
His words echoed Maureen’s frustration and reinforced her point.
Women becoming single mothers
The man in the video explained that many women become single mothers due to difficult, painful circumstances. He said some women are single mothers because they left very abusive marriages. He also pointed out that some women became single mothers because they lost their husbands.
According to him, these are “serious circumstances that they did not plan for,” yet they still face harsh judgment.

He went further to condemn the stereotypes placed on single mothers. He said he did not understand why they are “dehumanised and stereotyped as sexually active prostitutes.” The man stressed that such labels are unfair and harmful. He also made it clear that even in cases where a woman became a single mother through choices people may judge, the shame directed at her is still wrong.
Maureen, who is herself a single mother of two boys, appeared to connect deeply with the message. She has two children with Frankie Just Gym It, and the two co-parent. She insisted that single mothers deserve dignity and respect, not shame.
