‘Math is not mathing’ – Willis Raburu gives his take on massive corruption, wastage in govt

By , February 17, 2026

Media personality Willis Raburu has expressed his shock at the massive corruption and waste in government.

Raburu stated that the math does not match the resources pumped by Kenyans, as challenges that were meant to be addressed remain prevalent despite the massive financial resources.

“Folks the math is not mathing and matching! Ladies and gentlemen…If numbers could scream, this report would be on fire,” Raburu declared in a statement on his social media platforms on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

According to Raburu, the beautiful dream of devolution failed to meet expectations as corruption quickly found its way to the devolved units, with massive plunder and wastage becoming the order of the day.

Raburu’s take

He went ahead to paint a clearer picture in a video posted on his social media platforms, flagging corruption as a key concern.

“You know the big dream we were sold about devolution, money closer to the people, services at the grassroots, power to the counties…beautiful dreams,” he said.

He broke down the data, detailing the amount sent to counties with little to show for it over the years.

“Here’s the math: Between 2013 and 2024, 3.4 trillion shillings was transferred to the counties. What do citizens get? Delayed salaries, stalled projects and hospitals without medicines. So where did the three trillion shillings go?” Raburu said.

Billions lost to corruption with few convictions

Raburu noted that the youth, persons living with disability and women were shortchanged in government tenders and failed to get what is legally reserved for them.

“By law, 30 per cent of government tenders should go to youth, women and persons with disability, but only 6 per cent went to them,” he added.

Corruption remained a concern with most of the persons of interest in high-profile cases walking free as the country lost huge sums of money.

“Between 2018 and 202,4 274 high-profile cases were taken to court, but only 11 convictions were achieved,” the journalist added.

He lamented that during the same period, 780 billion shillings were lost to corruption.

Kenya lost 780 billion shillings to corruption, and that is just what could be verified. Actual money recovered was just 28.4 billion shillings with the remaining amount lotted away,” Raburu added.

His scathing analysis comes in the wake of claims of corruption and wastage in the counties, with the Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) grilling several governors.

Governors have accused several Senators of soliciting bribes, leading to a standoff.
