Mama Gift travels to India for son’s treatment 50 days after TikTok fundraiser

Embu TikToker Mama Gift Gathoge has finally travelled to India for her son’s treatment, just 50 days after fellow TikTokers visited her at Njuukiiri Stadium and donated thousands of shillings to support her son’s specialised medical care.

In a TikTok livestream on Monday, December 15, 2025, Mama Gift updated her followers while onboard an aeroplane at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, saying they were set to take off at any moment.

“So guys, as you can see, we have already boarded, and everything is okay. We are settled inside the plane and are now just waiting to depart. Even Baby Gift is seated here next to me,” she said happily.

She explained that, unlike previous attempts, the airline staff did not turn them away because of her son’s medical condition, adding that one of the staff members was assisting in connecting him to an oxygen tube to help with his breathing.

“Baby Gift is right there, and someone is helping to connect his oxygen tubes now. We have finally travelled out for treatment,” she said.

Mama Gift further expressed optimism that she would return to Kenya with her child fully treated, noting that she was praying to God to grant her a safe return with a powerful testimony.

She went on to thank TikTokers for standing by her after her emotional appeal, while also expressing gratitude to God for how smoothly everything had worked out in recent days.

“Trusting the process with God at the forefront of it all. Next year will be a year full of celebration and thanksgiving. Thank you all, including MC Chris Kirubi, Swings Mauno, Peter Kioi, Githaiga wa Chai, and many others,” she wrote.

Beggar backlash

The development comes just days after she turned to God after a netizen berated her for frequently asking people to donate to support her son’s treatment.

In a TikTok post on Friday, December 5, 2025, Mama Gift asked God to perform a healing miracle on her child, explaining that the criticism she was receiving for trying to help him had become too much to bear.

“God, I ask for just one miracle: heal my son for the glory of Your name. Let those who mock me face the consequences, as in the stories of Peninah and Hanna. We are in and out of hospitals almost every day. Please, God, help me. If you are healthy and have healthy children, always thank God and never mock anyone who is struggling,” Mama Gift wrote.

The criticism came from a TikToker who accused her of repeatedly disturbing people online by requesting donations.

The critic, @lucykirika, questioned why she continued to appeal for help, suggesting that her repeated posts were burdensome to users.

“How many millions do you want before you stop disturbing people? Why do you keep asking for donations all the time?”
