Mama Gift pleads with TikToker to stop bullying Karangu Muraya

Embu-based TikToker Purity Mugambi, widely known as Mama Gift, has called on a TikToker to stop targeting gospel artiste and philanthropist Karangu Muraya.
In a post shared on her official TikTok account on Friday, December 26, 2025, Mama Gift insisted that Karangu is innocent.
“Hello everyone, stop bullying MC ama Karangu, please. They are innocent,” Mama Gift pleaded.

Mama Gift’s post aims at halting online harassment and defending the two from ongoing attacks on social media.

Genesis of online attacks
The controversy began after Kenyans expressed anger upon learning that Mama Gift had used Google Photos to solicit additional financial help.
During a TikTok live session, it was revealed that Mama Gift, who is currently in India with her son Gift as he undergoes treatment, had used photos downloaded directly from Google to convince netizens to contribute more money.
She has since deleted the downloaded photos.
Kenyans had contributed Ksh 1.1 million after she shared the photos while in India.
“Thank you, TikTok and FB friends, for the Ksh 1.1 million support for baby Gift’s treatment. I am much humbled and thankful alot. Be blessed all and never lack. I cannot mention you all by your names, but from the depths of my heart, nimeshukuru sana,” Mama Gift wrote after Kenyans contributed additional money towards Gift’s treatment.

Karangu on attacks
In his defence, Karangu expressed disappointment after being dragged online in something he says he is unaware of.
Taking to his official Facebook account on Thursday, December 25, 2025, he explained that he had stayed up all night helping with Baby Gift, a situation he had not been aware of beforehand, only to feel frustrated that people were now pointing fingers at him.
“I have ended my Christmas day a very disappointed man…you requested me to help baby Gift, a story that I didn’t know but I sacrificed my whole night…then you are all here pointing fingers on me…surely,” he said.

Gift’s treatment in India
In a TikTok livestream on Monday, December 15, 2025, Mama Gift updated her followers while onboard an aeroplane at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, saying they were set to take off at any moment.
“So guys, as you can see, we have already boarded, and everything is okay. We are settled inside the plane and are now just waiting to depart. Even Baby Gift is seated here next to me,” she said happily.
She explained that, unlike previous attempts, the airline staff did not turn them away because of her son’s medical condition, adding that one of the staff members was assisting in connecting him to an oxygen tube to help with his breathing.
“Baby Gift is right there, and someone is helping to connect his oxygen tubes now. We have finally travelled out for treatment,” she said.
