Digital content creator Liz Jackson has expressed shock after a petrol station limited fuel purchases to Ksh2,000, citing a shortage.

In a statement shared on her Instagram Stories on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Liz Jackson said the situation caught her off guard as she tried to fuel at her usual station. She explained that the restriction came without certainty on when the supply would be stable again.

She said the attendant informed her that they could not fuel more than Ksh2,000 because they did not have enough oil. She explained that this was unusual.

“The look on my face right now after trying to fuel and the petrol station attendant tells me they can’t fuel more than 2k because they don’t have enough oil till Tuesday, which is also not a guarantee,” she said on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

She said the situation has forced her to change her plans as she tries to find a way around the shortage days after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced fuel prices for March- April cycle. She explained that she now has to move between different petrol stations to fill her tank.

“My plan is to fuel 2k in different locations till I get a full tank juu hii ni mambo gani,” Liz Jackson added.

She added that the situation has come at a difficult time, as she has an event scheduled. She explained that the uncertainty around fuel availability has made planning more challenging.

“And I have an event tomorrow.”

Fuel shortage concerns raised

This comes after former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria dismissed fears of an imminent spike in fuel prices amid shortage concerns. He said there is no reason to expect a major increase in fuel prices in the current review period.

“In this era where everyone is an expert at everything, it’s tempting to doubt your own knowledge when the uninformed pose as professors. I understand the oil industry very well, having worked in the industry since 1994 and as a banker to the oil producers later. There is no way on earth there will be a major spike in the price of fuel in this week’s review,” Kuria stated on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

He explained that he understands the oil industry well, having worked in it for many years. He said his experience gives him confidence that there will be no major price spike.

Liz Jackson’s complaint comes after the COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCC) issued a stern warning to businesses across its member states against engaging in anti-competitive conduct and unfair trade practices amid ongoing disruptions linked to the Middle East crisis.

In a press statement dated March 20, 2026, that was shared via social media on Saturday, March 21, 2026, CCCC Chief Executive Officer Willard Mwemba expressed concern that the conflict is already triggering supply chain disruptions, higher logistics costs, and commodity shortages, factors that could drive up prices across the region.
