Liz Jackson reveals why she calls her mother by her name

Digital content creator Liz Jackson has opened up about the personal reason she calls her biological mother by her name instead of ‘mum’ or ‘mama’.
In a confession shared on her official Instagram account on Friday, January 9, 2026, Liz shared a touching story from her childhood.
Liz revealed that she spent much of her early life in the village, where she was raised by her aunt, whom she believed was her biological mother.
In addition, she says, growing up, she naturally formed a strong bond with her aunt, calling her “mum” because that was the role she played in her life.
“Hio challenge ya kuendea watoto ushago is abit too personal for me. I should give you guys a story time of how I didn’t know my mum was my mum,” she revealed.
“Nilikaa ushago sana and I thought my auntie is my mum (mum’s sister).”
She explained that her biological mother would visit her occasionally and buy her things, which left her curious. At the time, Liz did not understand why the woman seemed so invested in her.
“I noticed my mum would visit me occasionally and buy me stuff. So one day I asked my auntie ‘na huyu mama mweupe anashidanga akininunulia vitu ni nani?” and she told me uyo ndio mama yako!,” she narrated.
Despite learning the truth, Liz said the habits she formed as a child stuck with her. To this day, she still calls her aunt “mum,” while referring to her biological mother by her name.
“Until today I call my auntie mum, and I call my mum by her name juu I grew up like that na nilishindwa kubadilisha,” she said, adding that it was never meant to be disrespectful but simply a reflection of how she was raised.
Liz’s story comes amid ongoing discussions about parents leaving their children in the village and later returning to pick them up once they are more stable.
Her experience highlights the deep emotional bonds formed during childhood and shows that motherhood can be shaped by care, presence, and consistency, rather than biology alone.
