‘Kujeni hapa’: Maina Kageni calls out women over public disrespect of their partners

Radio personality Maina Kageni has raised concerns over how some women treat their partners in public, questioning why criticism is often directed at men in open spaces.
In a post on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, he made the remarks during a discussion where he encouraged reflection on respect in relationships. He said his message was meant to start an honest conversation.
He explained that words used in relationships carry strong meaning. He said they can either build or destroy a partner’s confidence, adding that public criticism can be even more damaging, especially when it happens in front of others.
“The power of the tongue!” Maina Kageni said.

He went on to address Kenyan women, urging them to think about how they speak to their partners. He said some comments made in public can deeply hurt men emotionally. He added that such behaviour may affect families as well.
Kenyan men and respect in relationships
Maina Kageni’s post may highlight that respect plays a key role in keeping relationships stable. According to him discouraging a partner in front of others can create some sort of emotional damage. He added that children who witness such moments may also be affected.
He questioned why some women choose to speak negatively about their men in public.

“Kenyan ladies, kujeni hapa… there are things you tell your men that absolutely break them,” Maina Kageni said.
Maina Kageni also raised concerns about public disrespect. He said talking badly to a partner in front of children is harmful.
“You criticise them publicly, you talk badly to them, and you discourage them… even in front of the children!!!” Maina Kageni said.
His post urges people to reflect on how they communicate with their partners. Respect should be a key part of every relationship, and open conversations can help solve problems without causing emotional harm.
Maina Kageni concluded by calling for a candid discussion on the issue.
